VOLUME 9: FIFA 2026: Will It Be Fly or a Flop?
By Tracy Barac, CEO Fluency Advertising
Fly (adj.) – smooth, impressive
If you’ve been following Boston’s FIFA 2026 preparations, you’d think the greatest challenge facing the region is logistics or infrastructure. City planners talk about traffic patterns and stadium readiness. But they’re missing the real problem.
FIFA 2026 isn’t just about logistics. It’s about delivering experiences. Global visitors will arrive expecting seamless service, cultural engagement, and hospitality that reflects the world they’re celebrating. These experiences don’t happen by accident. They require people in the form of multilingual ambassadors, cultural guides, street teams, hospitality professionals, community connectors and others who will make this an outstanding experience.
And right now, no one is recruiting them.
The question isn’t whether Boston can host the World Cup. The question is whether organizations in the hospitality, transportation, sports facilities & stadium operations and other related industries are willing to prepare the human infrastructure that makes hosting actually work. Because if we don’t get intentional about getting people recruited, trained up and ready to deploy now, it’s possible that we could have a visitor catastrophe that was entirely preventable.
While New York stages drone light shows in the sky and other host cities roll out visible activation campaigns, Boston has one poster on Route 1 in Foxborough. That’s not a strategy. That’s silence. And in this case, silence reads as a lack of readiness.
The window is closing. FluencyAdvertising.com has solutions starting with understanding the size and how to reach the total and qualified available markets for the talent needed. Boston’s competition isn’t another host city, Boston’s competition is inaction.
Which begs the question will FIFA 2026 be fly or a flop?
